National Novel Writing Month

November is National Novel Writing Month. So if you have been looking for an excuse to write that novel, now is your chance. If you complete 50,000 words (175-pages) by midnight November 30th then you get your name down as a winner.

For some reason I have the image of a million monkeys at a million typewriters. A lot of what is turned out will probably be worth very little, but you should look at it as more of an exercise in breaking down your mental barriers to writing then trying to produce a actual useful novel. In then end I am sure there will be a lot of surprisingly good tidbits in those novels.

I’ll need to give this some reflection before committing to writing. November promises to be a busy month for me this year. Next year I will plan ahead and be ready to write.

I agree with the ‘million monkeys’ thing. It reminds me of this poetry contest my Aunt wanted me to enter when I was a kid. It turned out to that the company was going to publish almost anybody’s poetry that submitted, then try to sell the book to all the entrants (at least that’s what it looked like to me). I didn’t enter.
